Honorary Doctorate Awarded to IAU President Prof. Dr. Fredman

fredmanrector2022 September 22nd, 2022, International Association of Universities (IAU) President Prof. Dr. Pam Fredman was awarded an honorary Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) doctorate during a ceremony on campus. She was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa diploma in Latin and a special keepsake medal during the ceremony.

During her keynote address, Prof. Pam Fredman emphasized that higher education must be "accessible" to all regardless of socio-economic background, noted the importance of life-long learning and the importance of Universities pursuing and continuing internationalization.

"To be given the Honoris Causa title at your University is for me an appreciation of international cooperation in higher education," Prof. Fredman told MRU Rector Prof. Inga Žalėnienė and the MRU professors, students and guests gathered at the ceremony, which was held in a packed auditorium.

Sweden's Ambassador to Lithuania Inger Linnea Buxton attended the ceremony and congratulated Prof. Fredman saying it was "a great pleasure for me to be here today and to be part of this awards ceremony."

"As a representative of  the Swedish government here in Lithuania, I take great pride in a person like professor Pam Fredman – for her contribution to higher education in Sweden for many years, as well as for her dedicated work in international cooperation and not least, in her role as president of the International Association of Universities," the Ambassador said.

MRU's Senate agreed to confer the honorary doctorate for Prof. Fredman's significant contribution enhancing the role of higher education in strengthening democracy and sustainable social development, for developing education and science policies based on humanism, promoting equal access to education for all, reducing regional and social exclusion in education and in science, for her outstanding contribution to bringing the world's academic community together to address global challenges through research.

"We value the great contribution of IAU President Prof. Dr. Pam Fredman in mobilizing the world's academic community to jointly solve global problems by conducting scientific research and promoting open access to new knowledge and research results," said MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė.
