Hong Kong Native Seeking to Create Links Between Europe & China

imgp9365 Hong Kong native Kristy Tong, majoring in political science at Sciences Po Paris, is volunteering at the Transparency International Anti-Corruption Summer School underway at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU).

The 20-year-old student is planning to spend an exchange year abroad in Amsterdam. Tong said she is especially interested in links between Eastern Europe and China and the One Belt, One Road policy.

Most surprising about Vilnius and Lithuania is "how people are quite fluent in English. I spent last summer in Kiev and not many people could speak English," she said.

Tong said she had many classmates from Eastern Europe and that her boyfriend is Lithuanian.

"Lithuania is a place with a lot of potential. The economy is booming. The Baltics are a great place to start to invest," she said.

"It's really different from Hong Kong here. What I am most astonished about was that everything is on time, unlike in France," she said.

A fan of potato cepelinai, a traditional Lithuanian dish, Tong said she is not impressed by the cold pink beet šaltibarsčiai soup.

"I just find the pink beet soup kind of strange. I like the šiupininė better," she said.

In the future, she plans to find links between Eastern European countries and China and become a bridge for tourists, businessmen, researchers and others.

"I actually like it here. I think it's great," added the volunteer.
